Messaging a tutor is free. You can ask questions and agree goals and lesson times before anything is booked. If you don't have an account yet, you create one as you send your first message.
1. Choose the lessons
On the tutor's profile, use the message box on the right.
Subject and level (1): pick what the lessons are for. The price at the top of the box changes to match.
Who are the lessons for? (2): My child, Myself or Someone else.
Your message to Jordan (3), with the tutor's name: we start it for you, and it updates as you change the choices above. Edit it as you like.
The + buttons (4) add a line for you to finish: Year group, Exam board, Target grade, Exam date, Best times, or Intro call to ask for a short call before booking.
If the tutor teaches both online and in person, you'll also choose Online or in person, and for in-person lessons, Where are the lessons?: type your town or postcode and pick it from the list.
2. Write your message
Say what you need help with. The more you tell the tutor, the better they can reply. Your message (1) might look like this. Then select Send message (2).
If something's missing, the box tells you before sending, for example "Add a little more so Jordan can reply properly." when the message is very short.
Also send to 2 similar tutors sends the same message to two more tutors. See Send your message to similar tutors.
3. Create your account
If you're not signed in, you're asked "Where should Jordan reply?". Your message is kept and sends as soon as you're done. I'm new here is selected.
Fill in First name, Last name, Email, Mobile number (tutors you message, and our team, can call or text you) and Create a password (at least 8 characters). Tick I accept the terms and privacy policy.
If anything is missing or wrong, each field says what to fix, for example "Please enter a valid email address." or "Please accept the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy."
If your email is already registered, you'll see "Has already been taken" under Email. Select I have an account and sign in instead (see Message a tutor if you already have an account). If you can't remember the password, select Forgot your password? under the password box: the reset page opens in a new tab, so your message stays here.
Select Send message to Jordan (1).
Select Back to your message at any point to change what you wrote.
4. Message sent
You'll see "Message sent to Jordan" and when the tutor usually replies. The next steps are listed: the tutor replies, you agree goals and lesson times in your Tutorspot messages, then you accept the booking and add a card for your first lesson. You pay after each lesson.
Under Hear back sooner you can send the same message to similar tutors with Send. Select Done to close.
On a phone
On a phone, tap Message Jordan (1) in the bar at the bottom of the profile.
The same message box opens as a sheet. Fill it in and tap Send message.
The account step and the confirmation then show in the same sheet.
Where the reply arrives
We email you when the tutor replies. To read and answer, sign in to your Tutorspot account and open Messages (1). Each tutor has their own conversation.
Good to know
Don't share phone numbers or email addresses in messages. Use Tutorspot messages for everything.
If you were signed in a while ago, you may see "Your session has expired. Sign in to send your message." Your message is kept: sign in under I have an account and send it.
If creating your account keeps showing "Something went wrong. Please try again.", wait a while before you try again: there's a limit on how many sign-up attempts one email address can make in an hour.
