When you add a referee, we email them a personal link. They don't need a Tutorspot account. Share this article with a referee if they have questions.

1. The referee opens the link

The form takes about two minutes, and the answers are shared with families considering you as a tutor. The referee's First name and Last name are filled in, and they can correct them. Email shows the address you gave. If it's wrong, the referee needs to ask you to update it.

2. The referee answers the questions

The form asks for:

  • Relationship: how they know you, for example "Head of department".

  • How long have you known …?

  • How would you rate …?: a score from 1 to 5, where 5 is excellent, for Reliability, Punctuality, Commitment and Honesty.

  • Additional comments (optional).

If they miss something, the form says what's needed when they select Submit reference.

3. The referee submits

With everything filled in, the referee selects Submit reference (1).

They see Thank you. There's nothing more for them to do.

What happens next

The referee moves from Pending to Completed on your References page, and the reference is published on your profile.

Good to know

  • If the referee opens the link again after submitting, they see Reference submitted with There's nothing more to do.

  • If the link is incomplete or you've removed the referee, they see This link isn't valid and are asked to check they copied the whole link from the email, or to contact info@tutorspot.co.uk.
