Start on the Tutorspot home page. Tell us the subject and level, and whether you want lessons online or in person, and you'll see the tutors who fit. You don't need an account to search.

1. Choose online or in person

In the search box on the home page, choose Online or In person (1). Online is chosen to start with.

2. Choose a subject

Select Any subject (2) and start typing. Pick your subject from the list. If nothing matches, you'll see "No subjects match".

3. Choose a level

Select Any level (3) and pick one, such as GCSE or A-Level. The list only shows levels taught for the subject you chose. You can leave subject or level as "Any" to see more tutors.

4. For lessons in person, add your town or postcode

If you chose In person, a Location box appears. Type your town or postcode (1), then pick it from the suggestions (2). You must pick from the list: the search uses the place you pick to find tutors within about 25 miles.

If no place matches what you typed, the list says "No towns or postcodes match". Check the spelling or try your postcode.

If you type a town but don't pick it from the list, selecting Find tutors shows "Choose your town or postcode from the list." (1) under the search, and nothing is searched yet. What you typed stays in the box: select it again and pick the suggestion.

On a phone

The search works the same way. Online and In person are tabs above the form. Tapping Any subject, Any level or Location opens a full-screen list with a search box at the top.

Good to know

  • Online lessons can be with a tutor anywhere in the UK, so online searches don't need a location.

  • If you leave Location empty, an in-person search covers tutors everywhere.

  • Not sure who to choose? Get matched for free under the search asks our team to recommend tutors. See Get matched by our team.
