We pay you through Stripe, our payment provider. Stripe holds your identity and bank details, and we never see them. Until Stripe has what it needs, you can't be paid and you can't send lesson reservations.

1. Open Payout account

In the sidebar, select Payments. Until your payout account is set up, you land on the Payout account tab, and Payouts (1) is greyed out.

The Get paid card lists the two things between a lesson and money in your bank: your payout account, and your lesson reports. Below it, the Payout account card shows your status, here Not set up.

2. Continue on Stripe

Select Set up payouts with Stripe (2). You continue on Stripe's own website, where Stripe asks for:

  • your name, date of birth and address, to confirm who you are (and a photo of your ID only if it needs one);

  • the bank account where you want your earnings paid;

  • your agreement to Stripe's terms.

It takes a few minutes. If you take a break and your Stripe link expires, you'll see Your Stripe link had expired. Opening a new one… and you go straight back into Stripe.

3. Come back to Tutorspot

When you finish on Stripe, you're brought back to Tutorspot. You'll see Checking your account with Stripe…, then, for example, Thanks. Stripe reports your account as complete. Taking you back…

Back from Stripe: Thanks. Stripe reports your account as complete. Taking you back…

You land back on Payout account, which now shows Your payout account is complete, your bank (Account ending …) and Verified by Stripe.

If we can't check with Stripe straight away, you'll see We couldn't check with Stripe. Select Continue. Your details update shortly.

What it means

What to do

Not set up

Stripe needs your details before you can be paid.

Select Set up payouts with Stripe.

Action required

Stripe needs something by a date, for example a photo of your ID. Miss it and payouts are paused.

Select Continue with Stripe.

Restricted

Your payouts are paused, and your lessons may not be charged, until Stripe has what it asked for.

Select Continue with Stripe.

Upcoming requirement

Stripe will soon need something. Nothing changes until the date shown.

Select Continue with Stripe when you're ready.

Complete

Stripe has everything it needs.

Nothing.

For Action required, the Get paid card (1) shows the problem first, and the notice explains what Stripe needs and by when, with Stripe's reason, such as The document is expired. Select Continue with Stripe (2).

Action required: Stripe needs a photo of your ID, with the Get paid card marked 1 and Continue with Stripe marked 2
Restricted: Your payouts are paused
Upcoming requirement: Stripe will soon need more information

4. Change your bank account

Once you're set up, select Update bank details (1) to change the account on Stripe. The Get paid card may still remind you about lesson reports: we pay for a lesson once its report is in.

Good to know

  • If you see Your payout account isn't ready yet, contact us and we'll set it up.

  • If Stripe has paused or rejected your account, the page asks you to contact support@tutorspot.co.uk. Only we can sort this out.

  • The same Stripe check verifies your identity on the Verification page.
