How to join your lesson by video link or in the Tutorspot online classroom, on a computer or a phone.

Your tutor teaches either over a video link (for example Zoom or Google Meet) or in the Tutorspot online classroom. The lesson page tells you which, under How you'll meet. Joining takes one button either way.

1. When your lesson is about to start

Shortly before a lesson, a Starting soon box opens on whatever Tutorspot page you're on. It shows the subject, tutor and time, how you'll meet, and a button to join: Join Classroom for a classroom lesson, or a Join button for a video call. Lesson details opens the lesson. You can close the box and join from Home or the lesson page instead.

2. Join by video link from Home

When your tutor has added a video link, Next up on Home says "Video link ready". Select Join lesson (1).

A Join Lesson box shows the Video Link (1) and, if there is one, the Joining Password (2). Select the link to open the call in a new tab, and enter the password if the call asks for it.

On a phone the box looks like this:

3. Join by video link from the lesson page

Open the lesson and select Join video call (1). The call opens in a new tab. If there's a password, it's shown beside the button: select the copy icon (2) and paste it into the call.

How you'll meet further down shows the link and password again, each with a copy button (1, 2), in case you want to join from another device.

If it says "Your tutor hasn't added a link yet.", check again closer to the lesson or message your tutor.

4. Join the online classroom

If How you'll meet says Tutorspot Online Classroom, select Join Classroom (1) at the top of the lesson page.

The classroom opens full screen in the same tab. A dark bar at the top shows Back to Tutorspot (1) and the lesson's name and time. The rest of the screen is the classroom itself, where you see and hear your tutor and share a whiteboard. Your browser asks to use your camera and microphone: select Allow.

5. Leave the classroom

Select Back to Tutorspot. We ask Leave lesson?: "The classroom stays open for everyone else, and you can rejoin from the lesson page." Select Leave lesson, or Stay in lesson to carry on.

What happens next

When your tutor ends a classroom lesson, you see This lesson has ended! with the lesson's name. Select View lesson to see the lesson, or Go to Home.

Good to know

  • Join from a computer or tablet if you can: the classroom's whiteboard is easier to use on a bigger screen.

  • If the classroom page says "This classroom link isn't valid", go back to the lesson page and select Join Classroom again.

  • If you can't get in, message your tutor from the lesson page.
