When a parent or student contacts you from your Tutorspot profile, a conversation with them starts in Messages. Replying quickly gives you the best chance of booking lessons.
1. Spot the new message
A number next to Messages (1) shows how many conversations have messages you haven't read. On a phone it shows on the Messages tab. If a message stays unread for a few minutes, we also email you, and you can turn on text messages in Notifications.
2. Open the conversation
Select Messages. Conversations are listed newest first, with the client's first name and last initial (1). On a computer the newest one opens beside the list. A New messages line (2) shows where the messages you haven't read begin.
3. Read the enquiry
Scroll to the top of a new conversation. You'll see:
A reminder: "This is the start of your conversation with Chris. As a reminder, don't share contact details in messages on Tutorspot. Please use our messaging system for all communication."
If the client sent a tutor request, a card such as Chris's tutor request with the Subject, Level and how they'd like to have Lessons, for example Online.
The client's first message, which is their enquiry, in their own words.
Please don't share phone numbers, email addresses or other contact details, and don't ask for the client's. Keep everything in Tutorspot messages. In long conversations, a short reminder stays under the message box.
4. Reply
Type your reply in Start typing... (1), then press Enter or select Send (2). For a new line without sending, press Shift+Enter. On a phone, use the Send button.
Your reply appears on the right with Delivered. It changes to Seen once the client reads it.
If a reply doesn't go through, it shows Not sent with Retry and Edit. Your words are kept, so select Retry to send them again.
On a phone, the conversation fills the screen. Type in the message box (1) and tap Send (2). Tap the line under the client's name to see your next lesson, any reservation waiting for them and open homework.
What happens next
When you've agreed what the client needs, you can:
Share when you're free, or offer a specific slot. See Share your availability and propose a time.
Book the lessons. See Send a lesson reservation from a conversation.
Good to know
The panel on the right of the conversation shows your next lesson with this client, any reservation waiting for them to accept, open homework and links to your workspace and lessons with them.
To find a conversation, type the client's first name or initial in Search by first name or initial.
Clients can't attach files to messages, and neither can you. Use a workspace to share work.
